As part of the religion practiced in Roman France, Epona was the goddess of all hoofed animals that served humankind and was a fertility goddess as well. Representations of her in art suggest that she and her steeds were conductors of souls in the journey to the afterlife. Her horses were oft depicted in Celtic symbology. Thus this letterbox is a humble effort to mimic the artistry associated with Epona and the noble creatures under her guardianship.
